Insider Tips for Fresh Breath and White Teeth

Our teeth are incredibly important. They are a focal point. They can really tell you a lot about someone. That’s why we all want to have beautifully white teeth and fresh breath. There is nothing worse than stained teeth and foul smelling breath… is there?

We sat down with Dr. Maryam Adibfar – one of Toronto’s best dentists – to get some insight dental tips on how to keep your breath fresh and your teeth white. Because the tips and tricks we’ve learned over the years are too good to be squandered. Let’s take a look at the proven tips that you and your family can use to improve your oral health.

1. Brush… everyday: This is simple, but we can often forget or become lazy when we brush. For two minutes twice a day, focus on brushing your teeth, gums and tongue. Since odour- and stain-causing bacteria can cause bad breath, use your trusty toothbrush to remove food debris and bacteria.

2. Don’t forget in between your teeth: While brushing is incredibly important, food debris and bacteria can often can lodged in between your teeth. This can evade your toothbrush – no matter how good you are at it. Flossing is the answer. If food debris and bacteria stay lodged in these areas for prolonged periods of time, they can have a negative impact on your overall oral health, including the strength of your enamel. It can also cause bad odour.

3. Rinse your mouth often: This is a simple way to keep your mouth fresh. Try carrying around a small alcohol-free mouthwash that can help cleanse your teeth, gums and tongue. The antibacterial element can help reduce bacterial levels and the flouride can aide in cavity protection. Try rinsing your mouth after eating and periodically throughout the day.

4. Chewing gum: We don’t mean the sugar-filled Hubba Bubba. Keep that for Halloween. Try finding gum with Xylitol. This is a natural element that is found in many fruits and veggies. It’s essentially a natural insulin stabilizer with a low glycemic index. In other words, it’s not high in sugar. This can help cleanse your mouth and promote saliva generation to fit bacteria build up.

5. Reduce stain-causing foods and beverages: We don’t mean cut out everything you love. But it’s important to be aware of the foods and beverages that can cause teeth to stain. The benchmark? If it would stain a white t-shirt, it can likely stain your pearly white teeth. Red wine, pop, coffee and fruits like blueberries can be specifically problematic. If you do love to consume these types of foods and beverages, rinse your mouth with water after enjoying them. This will dilute its stain-causing power.

6. Professional teeth whitening: Do you want whiter teeth? Sure you do! Good thing there are many great options available to professionally whiten your teeth. We offer ZOOM teeth whitening that can redefine your oral health and give you those pearly white teeth you’ve always wanted. It’s a great option if you want amazing results.

7. Rely on your dentist: Your dentist is there to make things easier. Rely on their expertise, insight and capabilities. They are there to improve your oral health and help keep your teeth white and your breath fresh. Schedule regular dental visits that include professional teeth cleaning and oral health exams. This can keep your teeth healthy and provides an opportunity for your dentist to review your teeth to ensure there are no issues that might require additional attention.
